Extends concluded with inspiring research beyond possibilities.

The final round of Extendiars – a research-based presentation competition by the Brac University Research for Development Club (BUReD) took place on the 23rd of December. Divided into 2 segments of idea presentation and poster presentation, the event was a daylong event with Brac University Society of Biotechnology as their outreach partner, helping people across diverse disciplines come together under one umbrella to foster building a community of innovation.

With over 58 registrations, the initial rounds required the applicants to submit an abstract of their idea and a poster/slides of their take on making Bangladesh a more sustainable living space. Out of them all, 13 were selected for the final round, which was judged by the esteemed faculties of BRAC University. Advisor of BUReD, Dr. Tarnima Warda Andalib (Assistant Professor, BBS),  Dr. Munima Haque (Associate professor, MNS), and Takmilla Tabassum (Lecturer, BBS) were the judges in the 1st segment of the competition – Idea presentation segment which kicked off around 11am. Each of the 8 teams presented their ideas very informative to the research enthusiast audience and was then asked thoughtful questions about their ideas, which not only helped them bring out minute details about the idea but was also received with constructive feedback. Some ideas even received the encouragement to be presented to the university authorities based on their promise of effectiveness, attention to detail, and alignment with SDGs. This was followed by the poster presentation segment judged by the Advisor and Co-advisor of the club, Md. Saif Kabir (Lecturer, OAA), where the remaining 5 teams presented their ideas of a viable Bangladesh as a colorful, informative illustration.

The prize-giving ceremony began at 4pm, where the honorable registrar, Dr. Dave Dowland, was the chief guest. The advisor, co-advisor, and registrar shared their gratitude to the club for creating a hub that inspires people to think beyond limitations and present the world with solutions that bring change that stays. Research alone does nothing if it does not bring impact; they all voiced in their own ways. With Shrek4 emerging as the winner for the Idea presentation and Eco-Feast in the poster presentation segment, the event brought curtains down with promises of a better and impactful second season with life-changing solutions.
