Erasmus Mundus: Humaira Anjum

Humaira Anjum (Alumnus, SoL) has always aspired to study abroad and get first-hand experience of the different kinds of study methods that foreign countries have to offer. Fortunately for her, being an Erasmus Mundus Scholarship recipient, her dreams have turned into reality. The Erasmus Mundus is a programme with several multidisciplinary opportunities. Students will are not only able to study their major but also the different fields related to it. This inevitably allows the students to network with numerous professionals, gain exposure to different cultures, and learn a variety of soft skills that can help them advance in their careers.
Due to the diverse opportunities offered by the scholarship, Humaira gravitated towards Erasmus Mundus. She is currently enrolled in three universities. Firstly, she is pursuing a Master of Laws (LLM) in International Law of Global Security, Peace & Development from the University of Glasgow in Scotland. She is also completing a second degree from the University of Barcelona and the University of Pompeu Fabra. Secondly, she is studying for a Master’s degree in International Security at the Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals (IBEI). Lastly, she is enrolled in the University of Tartu for a Master of Arts in Human Rights.
That said, there is no journey without obstacles. For Humaira, it was the application process and the back and forth between writing the motivation letter and collecting references. However, through it all, her family stood by her and lifted her spirits when they were running low, giving her the motivation to carry forward.
Finally, Humaira leaves us with some parting remarks for those interested in applying for the Erasmus Mundus scholarship. She says, “During our university life, we tend to focus solely on academics, but it is much more than that. Experiences related to our major must also be acquired. When it comes to applying for an international scholarship, experiences like these are crucial.”
