Rising Star’24 starts with a bang
Inside a soothing green Multipurpose Hall with warm welcomes from the hosts Tahia Hossain and Ahnaf Farhan, the opening ceremony for Rising Star ’24 organized by the BRAC University Indoor Games Club (BUIGC) was kicked off. The opening ceremony featured Mahfizul Aziz (Pro VC), Sajidul Karim (Director of operations), Dave Dowland (registrar), Ariful Islam (Chief financial officer) and Tahsina Rahman (joint director of team OSCAR). Special guests such as Yahar Mahboob from Arogga and Ehsanur Rahman from TORR were present as well who expressed their glee on being the sponsor of this event. The President of BUIGC Rakib Hasan took the honor to gift our chief guests with BUIGC jerseys engraved with their names. A friendly match of badminton between Mahfizul Aziz and Khairul Basher took place before the opening ceremony was concluded, to which Mahfizul Aziz said, “Let the games begin!” The multipurpose never saw a dearth of enthusiastic audience as people swarmed to watch the friendly matches and be a part of the performance festivities. With table tennis and carrom tables set in every corner, faculties and BUIGC alumnus engaged in passionate display of sports while curious bystanders stood around enjoying every shot.
The group stage of table tennis started with a bang as the intense matches were played in group A,B,C, and D. These groups were topped by Mohammad Mushfiqur Rahman, Shafi Ahmed Adib, Faiyaz Mustafiz, and Mir Namir Faiyaz respectively. The tables were crowded by the audience as the players
On the carrom boards, players astonished the audience with their strikes. The boards were always in attention from the crowds and the players thrived under pressure. Tanjin Sultana took the crown from group A in the female segment while Ahammad Ullah Atik and Saif Sadman Arnob headed Group A and B in the male segment.
In Badminton group stages Both male and female segments were intensely competitive. The courts were rattled by thunderous drives and clever flicks awed the audience. In female segment, Shaira Wasima earned the group champion status from group 7 and Lamia Akter Shimla topped group 9. The male segment group champions from group 1, 2, and 3 were Rinchen Nikey, Ahnaf Azmine, and Zarraf Wasif.
The first day of “Rising Star24” was a huge hit among the students who crowded the Multi-purpose Hall all day. The audience enjoyed the amazing opening ceremony and the phenomenal performance from all the participants. Aranya Saha (ENH, Senior) was ecstatic “I have never seen such a huge sporting event in Brac University and I am thoroughly enjoying this” while expressing his feeling about the event.
