7 days, 8 teams & 1 cup: SRS1 Football Tournament

The first-ever Short RS definitely did not fall short when it came to sports, cups and athletes. The SRS1 Football Cup was held from 16th to 18th May. 8 captains formed 8 teams that battled it out on the field with all their might.
The tournament was done in a knockout format with fixtures set through lotteries. 3 matches took place back-to-back on the first day itself; eventually, 8 teams turned into the last standing 2 teams. Teams Diodes and Infinity went head-on at the finals, with Team Infinity opening up the scoring. Mahmudul Hassan Shuvo (Junior, CSE) scored from a free-kick, helping his team take the lead 1- 0. A few minutes later, Team Diodes attacked back with the equaliser shot as Shafkat Hasnath (Sophomore, ESS) scored one from the free-kick line. When the whistle rang, the score line was tied 1-1, and the match went on to the ever-exciting penalty shoot-outs. Team Infinity came out victorious with 3-1 after the penalties, with their star player Samin Iqbal (Junior, BBS) bagging the prestigious man of the match award. At the prize-giving, Shafkat from Team Diodes and Abid Shahriar (Junior, CSE) from Team Infinity were jointly awarded the top scorers with 3 goals each to their names. The overall player of the tournament was Team Diodes’s Shafkat Hasnath. An eventful tourney was successfully packed into the short amount of time that made up a fun-filled SRS.
