AWS community day at BracU
On December 13th, Brac University’s CSE co-organized the AWS (Amazon Web Service) Community Day, hosted by the AWS User Group BD. What followed was a day filled with discussion sessions, robotics shows, and quizzes that offered both insights and networking opportunities to participants.

The event officially started at 10am, inside the Auditorium, with Nur Afrin Ela (Co-lead, AWS User Group BD) welcoming the participants. Shahriyar Al-Mustakim Mitul (Co-lead, AWS User Group BD), was one of the organizers of the event. During his speech he emphasized how Bangladesh had the highest events globally. He shared, “ I found it hard to believe that people didn’t know about such opportunities and decided to learn and build a community alongside.” Sadia Kazi (Chairperson, CSE) encouraged students to be curious and discover their own niche.

An engaging panel discussion followed centering around how much AI actually affects our lives. The discussion was met with interest and interaction, as students participated with questions. After the discussion ended, guests were invited to lunch and the robotics show outside the auditorium. Shadid Haque (Founder & CEO, Aivigator) — who taught CS at BracU from 2005 to 2007 — was one of the panel members. “CS and CSE students are not doomed. We need them to command AI, as opposed to obeying it,” remarks Haque.

Following lunch, the first round of tech-sessions began at 12:30pm. A total of five sessions took place simultaneously across BracU classrooms. Each session was helmed by keynote speakers, focusing on methods to safeguard against AI, and how to protect cloud resources. The second round of tech-sessions started at 3pm, covering topics related to risks of cloud misconfiguration, GEN-AI driven security assistant, and automating dev-platforms. A fun and interactive quiz round followed soon after.

Sarah Chowdhury (Junior, CSE) shared, “I was scared of feeling out of place among all the industry professionals but I ended up learning a lot.” Muhammad Sumon (Senior Software-Engineer, Netherlands) expressed the community day as an excellent opportunity for building connections for students and professionals alike. According to Md. Sabbir Ahmed (Lecturer, CSE), “There’s a glaring distance between our students and the industry. We plan to bridge that gap.”
The day-long event ended through a prize giving ceremony and appreciation for all the collaborators and participants.
