Ascendancy and Adventure at the DoE Awards
Who wouldn’t want an appetite for adventure and growth all in a whole? BracU gives this opportunity to the students to dive into the web of adventure with the Duke of Edinburgh Award. The Duke of Edinburgh (DoE) Award is an internationally reputed program that has been inspiring youths to develop self-dependency, ascendancy, and physical skills since its onset by Prince Philip in 1956. The DoE Award has transformed millions’ lives in over 130 countries. Interestingly, Brac University offers this conspicuous opportunity to obtain the renowned Bronze Certificate in the Residential Semester, providing students with an idiosyncratic amalgamation of learning, adventure, and personal growth.
The Bronze level Award requires the participants to outshine in four aspects: structuring skills, voluntary service, physical activities, and a venturesome journey. Each element is aimed to thrust the youths beyond their comfort zones and widen their horizon. The program that Brac University offers takes 6 months to complete. In the first three months, participants are to involve themselves in several in-campus voluntary services. Their progress is recorded on a weekly basis.
As RS ends, the students are to continue doing voluntary services and send their respective instructors proof of their activities, based on which they are allowed for the final trip to Matita. The trip is for 2 days and is full of bewildering activities like zip-lining, tyrolean traverse, rock climbing, trekking, candle-lit dinners, and a whole lot more. The entire trip is crowned by indelible experiences, like singing around a bonfire at night, gathering and making more connections, sharing tents, etc.
Rawhi Deema Reza(Sophomore, Biotechnology), a participant in the program speaks highly of her experience. Bouncing back on her journey, she shared, “The DoE program taught me more about leadership and teamwork than any textbook ever could.”. She also added that the way the DoE instructors emphasized their judgment on team bonding is the most important learning from her tour.
As has been shown above, the Duke of Edinburgh Award offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the students of Brac University. By participating in the DoE program during the residential semester, they are building themselves up for a future full of possibilities. Now is the time to seize this epic opportunity to grow, self-discover, and embark on an adventure.
