BracU celebrates the flow of Bengali tradition and art with “প্রবাহ “

On December 4th, Bracu Drama and Theatre Forum (BUDTF) organized “প্রবাহ” , meaning the “flow,” to celebrate the continuous evolution of Bengali culture, from Rabindranath Tagore’s Nastanirh to Manoj Mitra’s Pakhi and the contemporary narrative of Barner Baire (Beyond Colors). Despite variations in styles and expressions, the essence of drama and its power to convey a unified message remains timeless.

The event began with Banani Mukhopadhyay’s humorous audio drama E Kaler Kopalkundola (একালের কপালকুণ্ডলা), brought to life by Jami Rahman and Mashfia Zaman Tua, who won the audience’s hearts with their witty banter. This was followed by a series of music performances and interactive charades with students in traditional attire celebrating Shapa Day. The highlight of the show was a stage adaptation of Tagore’s Nastanirh(নষ্টনীড়), where Tahmid Al Towhid and Nishat Yeana delivered captivating performances as Amal and Chirutala.

The next play, Manoj Mitra’s Pakhi (পাখি), portrayed the struggles of a lower-middle-class couple, resonating deeply with the audience. A musical drama exploring a love triangle infused with passion and jealousy kept the crowd enthralled, while Borno (বর্ণ), scripted by BUDTF members, tackled societal colorism with modern storytelling and audience interaction. It ended on an inspiring note: “Dreams are beyond colors (স্বপ্ন বর্ণের বাইরে).”

Despite the audience’s enthusiasm for more, the event concluded on a high note, leaving everyone with much to reflect on. Md. Farhad Mahmud (Senior, CSE) expressed that the audience’s appreciation made their hard work worthwhile, while freshman Tashnim Chowdhury found the experience inspiring and eagerly awaited similar events.

Through Probaho, BUDTF beautifully intertwined traditional and contemporary art forms, showcasing the seamless cultural continuum of Bengali heritage.
