BracU faculties stand against injustice

Today, August 4th, a group of Brac University faculty members held a demonstration under the banner of “প্রতিবাদী শিক্ষকদের নিপীড়নবিরোধী মানববন্ধন” in front of the university’s main gate. The demonstration began at 8:30 am, following an announcement made the previous night urging faculty members to show their support for students by carrying placards, banners and wearing red.

Faculty members from various departments and schools participated in the anti-oppression demonstration. In a press release sent to BE, the organizers stated, “We are a collective of teachers, acting out of our own personal sense of morality, without the endorsement of Brac University, for the injustices happening around us go against the very fabric of humanity.”

Participants chanted slogans and held posters demanding justice and an end to the oppression of the student movement. Signs read “Stop Mass Killing and Arrest,” “Red July,” and “We Want Justice,” among others.

The faculty members also condemned the horrific and brutal attack by law enforcement authorities on BracU students on 18th July. The press release stated, “We condemn the continued violent tactics implemented by the law enforcement, as well as the misrepresentations and insensitivity with which the students’ just demands are being undermined.”

Furthermore, the students fro East West University and surrounding colleges and other universities joined BracU students infront of the main gate and protected the Badda-Rampura area from any attacks of the miscreants.

Expressing their support for the student movement, the faculty voiced their “rage and grief over the lives lost, the injured, and the wrongfully arrested,” calling for immediate justice and an end to the violence.
