Architecture students design the future of Merul Badda
On 3rd March, the School of Architecture and Design (SoAD) organised “Badda Adda”, a knowledge-sharing discussion in which the learners from the Urban Design Studio showcased their systematic plans and discussed the opportunities to transform Merul Badda into a structured area within the next 10 years. Merul Badda, once an unplanned maze of narrow lanes, devoid of modern amenities and mid-rise brick apartments, has transformed into a social energy hub today after the completion of the sustainable architecture of Brac University’s campus.

Although this conversion has contributed to the area’s economic growth, with increased student accommodation, cafes, and global food chains, it has also created disruptions, particularly severe traffic congestion and reduced privacy for residents. In this event, the students discussed the current state of Merul Badda and showcased models designed to address these issues. They focused on integrating commercial and residential infrastructure while highlighting the economic growth of this sector.

Moreover, highlighting the purpose of “Badda Adda ”, Nabila Hossian Raisa (Senior, SoAD) expressed, “Our agenda is to infrastructurally plan a coordinated city where everyone can co-exist in harmony, making sure that both the students and residents of this area can stay connected while finding a common ground”. Such initiatives highly promote awareness among the general public for the creation of better regions.
