The event commenced with an introductory address by Professor Chowdhury, co-advisor of BUHC, who shared insights from his journey as a British, Pakistani and then finally Bangladeshi archaeologist. Following this, Dr Dowland and Dr Rahman discussed visiting archaeological places. Dr Rahman then took the stage, sharing his journey as an archaeologist, highlighting his efforts to safeguard and preserve historical heritage. Exploring the division of Bangladesh, he shared pictures of archaeological sites accompanied by interesting anecdotes. From talking about his efforts in recovering and preserving the Balihati palace in Manikganj, he went on to share intriguing insights, including the distinction between Mughal and Sultanate Archaeology. His 33 years of archaeological experience made everyone present proud of our heritage. “Of all the 15 countries I have visited, no other country is as archaeologically diverse as Bangladesh,” he remarked.
The session then opened to interactive questions from audiences to ask Dr Rahman, creating a lively environment. While answering the queries, he encouraged the students to take initiatives for preserving the country’s heritage whenever they can, as he believes they are the helmsmen of the future.
