This lecture was given by Afsan Chowdhury(Adjunct Professor, ENH), a journalist, researcher and academic. He is also a Visiting Fellow at BIGD Brac University and has formerly worked with the United Nations, the BBC, Oxford University, and various other institutions. His areas of specialization are the history of Bangladesh, particularly the 1971 war, social diversity and discrimination, socio-economic migration, development and social communication, research methodology and practices, etc. One doesn’t need this list to recognize his unique knack for history. Everyone in the room recognised it just by hearing a few minutes of his talk.

The lecture covered five eras: prehistoric, tribal, imperial, capitalist, and modern. By traversing through these 5 phases, the lecturer explained the anthropological changes between the eras and pointed out the similar human and social behavioral patterns that have persisted through time. Although the entire lecture was interactive, its conclusion followed up with a separate Q&A session. Afterward, the attendees were served with some refreshments.

Salma Khan(Advisor, BUHC) and Nooha Sabanta Maula(Lecturer, GenEd ) attended the lecture. This event was the first step towards BUHC’s vision of nurturing historical discourse and enthusiasm among Brac University students.
