MNS initiates a series of talks, aiming to enrich the research culture in Bangladesh
Led by the Dean of the School of Data and Sciences, Professor Dr. Mahbubul Alam Majumdar, and organized by Syeda Tasnuva Jahan (Lecturer, MNS) and Walid Hasan (Junior, MNS), a series of research talks entitled “Merul Badda Talks in Math and Physics” launched on October 24, 2024. The initiative started with a documentary screening of “Abdus Salam: The Dream of Symmetry” to encourage discussions on advanced topics in Mathematics and Physics.
Ahmed Kamal Rakin, a distinguished lecturer from the MNS department currently on study leave, hosted the event. In his opening remarks, he eloquently portrayed Professor Salam’s charismatic persona and how his pioneering works in theoretical physics continue to inspire us, underscoring the power of identity and determination in the journey to success.
It was indeed an intriguing experience to learn about a great scientist of this subcontinent who achieved the peak of success beyond boundaries. The documentary showcases his journey, inspirational contributions to modern physics, and eventual journey towards the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1979. Many Physics and Mathematics enthusiasts from BRAC University and outside, including Professor Mahbub Alam Majumdar, have graced the event with their presence.
One of the organizers, Syeda Tasnuva Jahan, shared their vision with Bracu Express. She articulated, “Our goal is to kindle a passion for Maths and Physics in everyone. This is a community where anyone interested in these subjects is not just welcome but valued. We look forward to building a vibrant community of physics and math enthusiasts.”
While answering why they chose this particular documentary for their inauguration session, she added, “Abdus Salam comes from a very humble background like most of us. With this documentary, we wish to send a message that if you have enthusiasm and passion and do honest hard work, you can surely reach the stars.”
