Dexter: An anticipated resurrection

Dexter, the American television drama based on characters created by novelist Jeff Lindsay for his book series, Dexter, ruled the industry from 2006 to 2013. However, it left fans disappointed with its lackluster ending. The series returned 8 years later with Dexter: New Blood, followed by Dexter: Original Sin only 3 years later, and the newest addition, Dexter: Resurrection, released this July.

Dexter centers on Dexter Morgan, played by Michael C. Hall, a forensic technician in the Miami Metro Police Department who leads a parallel life as a vigilante serial killer. He used to hunt down murderers inadequately punished by the justice system due to corruption or legal technicalities.

The recent spinoff surpassed all expectations. Clyde Phillips, Chip Johanssen, and Scott Buck let fans connect this with the original series by adding clips from Dexter: Original Sin as flashbacks in Dexter: Resurrection. What makes this sequel even more nostalgic is that the title and theme song for the opening were the same as the original show.

The casting was also spot on, with Michael C. Hall and Jack Alcott reprising their roles as Dexter and Harrison Morgan. Other returning cast members included David Zayas as Angel Batista, James Remar as Harry Morgan, and John Lithgow as Trinity Killer. Notable members from the new cast included Peter Dinklage, Uma Thurman, and the guest appearances of Krysten Ritter and Neil Patrick Harris.
