Advancing mathematical sciences at SDS research seminar

On 4th July, the School of Data and Sciences (SDS) hosted an engaging seminar titled “Multiparameter Deformation Quantization of Coadjoint Orbits Tuned to the Unitary Dual” by Professor Syed Hasibul Hassan Chowdhury (Coordinator, Mathematics Program) under the series Merul Badda Talks in Math and Physics.

Professor Chowdhury received his doctorate in mathematics from Concordia University, Canada and held research positions at INSPEM, Malaysia and Nankai University, China. At BracU, he teaches advanced mathematics courses such as Category Theory and Algebraic Topology. Under his leadership, the mathematics program at BracU attracted the country’s brightest minds.

In the seminar, Professor Chowdhury described his research that combines geometry, quantum theory and representation theory through smoothly deforming physical systems using internal deformation parameters. Moreover, this approach unites different mathematical tools such as symplectic geometry and quantum groups.

Students and researchers from different universities attended the talk. The audience asked various questions to have a better understanding and engaged in discussions afterwards. An attendee from the University of Dhaka, Ahteshamul Ferdous Mashrafi, shares, “These types of talks should happen more frequently as they bring like-minded people together from different places.”

Sayeda Tashnuba Jahan (Lecturer, MNS) leads the initiative of organising these seminars through Merul Badda Talks in Math and Physics to promote a research culture in fundamental sciences. Professor Chowdhury expressed his gratitude to the students and faculty members by expressing, “It’s a very unique effort. We want to keep it alive at any cost.”
