Arko’s string cosmology research: From BracU to Italy

On 18th December, the School of Data and Sciences (SDS) hosted Kazi Fahim Reza Arko (Senior, MNS) for an illuminating seminar titled “A Universe with Kasner.”

Kazi Fahim Reza Arko is majoring in Physics and has completed a research internship at Physics Without Frontiers Bangladesh, an outreach program of the International Centre for Theoretical Physics, Italy (ICTP). His research interests lie in various topics of theoretical physics, such as general relativity, cosmology, and quantum field theory, with the aim of probing deeper into the world of string theory.

In his talk, Arko discussed his research on Kasner universes. He also explained anisotropic cosmological models and their extensions to higher-dimensional gravity and string-inspired supergravity frameworks.

Students and researchers from various institutions attended the seminar and engaged with the discussion. As Arko shares, “The discussion was engaging and informative. There were questions that seemed interesting.” He also depicted,

“We should arrange more talks on research work done by students in order to create an environment of sharing ideas and inspiring research among the student community.”

Co-organizer of the Physics Without Frontiers Bangladesh, Ahmed Rakin Kamal (Lecturer, MNS) feels, “I feel extremely happy and proud that our BracU students like Arko are coming forward and talking about advanced research topics that they are studying. Arko’s talk is a result of his internship with ICTP Physics Without Frontiers that we run in Bangladesh. I will be much happier if all of the PWF Internship students and other Brac University students take the initiative to give a talk and help others learn from their talks. This will inspire their peers and help increase our research capacity in physics in the country.”

Sayeda Tashnuba Jahan (Lecturer, MNS) arranges these research talks under “Merul Badda Talks in Math and Physics” to engage students with the culture of research in fundamental sciences. She shares, “It was interesting, very impressive for an undergraduate-level talk. I am, in particular, very proud because Arko has been my student in three of his advanced courses; therefore, it was a pleasure to watch him present his research.”

The seminar was an inspiration for many students. As Sheikh Saleh Ahmed Pushan (Sophomore, MNS) shares, “This topic would play a great role in modern theoretical physics. It’s really a proud and inspiring moment for us that Arko bhai is working on this.”
