Into the Realm of Classical Music: Dipro Nishanto’s Timeless Odyssey

For some, music isn’t merely an art—it is an heirloom, a thread connecting generations through rhythm and melody. For Dipro Nishanto, a senior in the Computer Science and Engineering department at BracU and a teacher at Chhayanaut, music is the language of his soul, woven into every fiber of his being by a legacy of classical devotion and personal dedication.

Born into a family where music was more than entertainment, Dipro recalls his earliest memories filled with melodies of Abbasuddin Ahmed’s ballads and the timeless beauty of Rabindra Sangeet. His father, a Chhayanaut alumnus and Sitar maestro, kindled the flame, teaching him that music wasn’t just to be heard but to be lived. “It was my father’s dream for me to master Rabindra Sangeet, and his guidance helped me take my first steps toward this path,” Dipro reflects with deep gratitude.

Surrendering entirely to the classical tradition of “Indore gharanas”, he has also found beauty in Rabindra Sangeet’s melody and poetry. “Where classical music grounds me in pureness, Rabindra Sangeet feels like an eternal embrace in melody and words,” he says, reflecting on the heartfelt gratitude imparted by passion and artistry that define one’s musical soul.”

One of  Dipro’s distinguished abilities is that he can bring alive these age-old traditions so that they seem to penetrate different generations. He lights up when he talks about the wonder on the faces of even the youngest listeners during Chhayanaut’s Classical Music Festival, where they sat spellbound through an entire night of performances. ”Their focus and curiosity give me so much hope,” he shares, his smile revealing the joy he finds in connection through music.

When asked about his most cherished memories, he mentions a solo recital at Chhayanaut’s 2021 Classical Festival, performing with his mentors who were bonded to him like brothers in a celebration of lifelong learning and camaraderie. He describes his most admired moment in BracU, which he profoundly respects, as performing at Sir Fazle Abed’s memorial at Brac University because every note seems to commemorate history and excellence.

To Dipro, every performance is a love letter to tradition, his audience, and himself. Moving forward in this line of art, Dipro Nishanto ensures richness in the timelessness of harmony in each tune he touches.
