Roadmap to Global Success (June – August 2022)

Over the summer of 2022, Brac University students participated in Olympiads, interned at multinational firms, engaged in renowned workshops, and competed in international competitions. This piece explores 7 exceptional groups of driven individuals who made a point to work tirelessly under heat and pressure to leave their marks on several global platforms of success between June to August 2022. Proving their potential against impossible odds, these students took Brac University’s name and logo to new heights.

European Robotics League (ERL):

  • Team name: BracU Dichari
  • Competition: European Robotics League (ERL)
  • Date and location: 20 -25 June, at Poznan, Poland 
  • Achievement: Perseverance Award
  • Additional info: Dichari was the only team representing Asia in the championship round.

29th International Mathematical Competition 2022

  • Team name: Atonu Roy Chowdhury (Sophomore, MNS)
  • Competition: 29th International Mathematical Competition 2022
  • Date and location: 3rd to 4th August 2022, in Bulgaria
  • Achievement: A five-member team from Bangladesh, which included a BracU student, secured 10th place in the 29th International Mathematical Competition 2022.

Get Engaged Conference 2022 :

  • Participants’ names: Halima Hasin (Senior, ENH ), Srijan Banik (Senior, CSE ), Maimuna Alam (Junior, ENH), Labby Ahsan (Sophomore, BBS), and Faiaz Zahin (Sophomore, CSE), coordinated by Turzo Nicholas Mondal, Lecturer
  • Competition: Get Engaged Conference 2022, organised by the Open Society University Network (OSUN)
  •  Date and location: 23rd June to 30th June at the American University of Central Asia (AUCA), at Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan
  • Achievement: Represented Bangladesh and Brac University at the conference for the first time.

RoboSub 2022:

  • Team name: BRACU DUBURI
  • Competition: RoboSub 2022
  •  Date and location: 27th July to 10 August in Maryland, USA
  • Achievement: Outstanding Rookie Team award
  •  Additional information: Bangladesh’s first-ever autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) to have participated in an international competition.

World Universities Debating Championship (WUDC)

  • Name: BRAC A
  • Event: World Universities Debating Championship (WUDC)
  • Date and location: 20th to 27th July 2022, took place virtually 
  • Achievement: Placed first in the competition
  • Additional information: The first team from Asia to win WUDC. 

World Robotics Championship

  • Name: Sunny Jubayer (Freshman, CSE), Mir Tanzid Ahmed (Freshman, CSE) 
  • Event: World Robotics Championship
  • Date and location: 21st to 23rd August 2022, in New Delhi, India
  • Achievement: Placed 4th in the competition
  • Additional information: Team Atlas helped Bangladesh gain the 2nd position in country rankings. 

Huawei Seeds For The Future 2022

  • Name: Lazib Sharar Shaiok (Senior, EEE), Mohsina Taz (Senior, EEE)
  • Event: Huawei’s Asia-Pacific Seeds For The Future 2022
  • Date and location: August 18th to August 28th in Thailand
  • Achievement: Represented BracU among the Top 9 winners from Bangladesh.       
  • Additional information: Mohsina proceeded as a finalist in Team Ether in the Tech4Good competition hosted by Huawei Seeds For The Future from August 29th to September 4th in Singapore.

Areeza Afnan Mahmud
