TechConnect career fair links students with leading companies
Brac University has finally hosted the much-anticipated “TechConnect: Engineering and Computer Science Career Fair,” organized by OCSAR, in the Multipurpose Hall. Many companies, such as TherapBD, Quantago AI, Augmentix, Walton, Strativ, Ulkasemi, Bkash, and others, set up stalls to engage with potential graduates.
Humaira Azad from TherapBD’s HR department highlighted the company’s expectations for graduates: “We look for technically skilled graduates,” a view shared by other companies, such as Strativ and Walton BD. Nahid Hasan from Strativ’s HR department added, “We seek graduates who are effective communicators and adaptable.”
Once hired, graduates typically undergo a probation period. TherapBD explained that this period lasts three to six months, during which new employees receive on-the-job training tailored to their specific roles. Ahmad Jayed, a graphic designer and HR associate at Brac IT, elaborated on the company’s training programs: “We offer two types of training: Brac IT Master Class and Brac IT Academy.” Senior employees lead the Master Class, while the Academy allows employees to broaden their DevOps and software architecture skills.
Most companies prioritize personal projects and extracurriculars over CGPA, though TherapBD requires a minimum CGPA of 3. Companies like TherapBD and Walton simultaneously also welcome CSE and EEE students for non-technical roles in management, HR, and writing. Recruitment timelines are often posted on the companies’ social media, and many companies, like Brac IT and Walton BD, visit university campuses to collect resumes and answer student inquiries.
A Brac University CSE alumnus, Niladri Saha, shared his thoughts on the career fair, saying, “This provides me with an opportunity to apply for jobs that align with my interests.” His view highlights that TECHCONNECT offers engineering students valuable opportunities to submit resumes, engage with company representatives, and gain valuable insights to better prepare for future jobs.
