In Conversation with Tamara Abed: A Legacy of Resonance
In an interview with BracU Express, Tamara Hasan Abed – Chairperson of the Brac University Board of Trustees and Managing Director of BRAC Enterprises, reflected on the works of her father, Sir Fazle Hasan Abed.
She emphasized the founding spirit of BRAC: authenticity, integrity and the courage to tackle problems at scale through Sir Abed’s deep belief in human potential and social justice. His beliefs helped shape the vision, particularly empowering women, whom he saw as natural stewards of resilience. Tamara recalled his belief in the power of women and his enduring mission to achieve gender equality.
Though BRAC faced challenges in conflict zones, its grassroots connection helped it to adapt and grow globally. Remembering her father as humble, curious, and principled, Tamara urged students to look beyond self-interest, connect with the world, and live in ways that uplift others, echoing her father’s belief: “Unless everyone is well, nobody is well.”
BracU Express thanks Tamara Abed for generously sharing his time and insights. Watch the full interview on BracU Express’s YouTube channel.
