Bangladeshi youth delegate advocates peace at UN
Tarazi Sheikh (Alumnus, SoL), was invited to the 80th United Nations General Assembly High-Level Week as a youth delegate on International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons. The discussion highlighted the urgent assessment of global security risks while passing through issues like doctrine of deterrence, threat of annihilation and the haunting past of the use of nuclear weapons, as well as, the risks of AI annihilation and integration. She stated that, “True global peace and security can only be attained by the complete elimination of nuclear weapons.” More importantly, she advocates for inclusion of this issue in all academics not just in specialized degrees as it is one of the central concerns of today’s neoliberal world.
Earlier in September, Tarazi also participated in the panel of the Women’s Leadership in Multilateral Diplomacy at NYU CIC, where the panel discussed several challenges for women to serve in senior diplomatic roles. Increased familial obligations like motherhood and lack of institutional security, childcare support and equitable leaves in work policy are few of many reasons for the drop of women’s participation in senior levels. She particularly believes that the most meaningful changes are only possible when both men and women can equally contribute to humanity.

She expressed that her journey was filled with an incomparable sense of fulfillment along with exceptional kindness and generosity. These opportunities drive her positive ambition and motivates her to work more diligently to create meaningful impact in the future. Even though she has countless achievements to be proud of, her most rewarding accomplishment has been to represent her country on the global stage.
Being forever grateful for her time spent in Bangladesh, especially in Brac University, she advised,
“Never hold back from dreaming big. Manifesting is the first step to achieving what may seem unachievable.”
