BracU alumnus gets appointed OXIO Rapporteur
Fahim Abrar Abid (Alumnus, SoL) has been appointed Rapporteur at Oxford International Organisations (OXIO) under the platform of Oxford Public International Law, marking a notable milestone for not only his career but also for Bangladesh. As OXIO rapporteur, Fahim will contribute to authoritative commentary that informs scholars, practitioners, and policymakers and enriches debates on climate governance, human rights, and institutional reform, alongside senior academics and practitioners in the cohort.
After graduating from Brac University with a high distinction in 2024, he received an Erasmus Mundus scholarship to pursue a triple master’s degree in International Law of Global Security, Peace and Development with Human Rights Specialisation at the University of Glasgow, Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacional and the University of Tartu. Although Fahim has since chosen to pursue his unconventional aspirations for research, he credits his father’s passion for law with fuelling his trajectory in law. Additionally, Fahim has authored multiple academic works in prestigious publications, including Oxford University Press, Routledge, Springer, Sage, Taylor & Francis, and Harvard International Law Journal.
Reflecting on his journey, Fahim noted how he was confused about applying for the role since he did not fulfil the requirement of having a PhD; however, his publication record gave him the confidence. Regardless of what everyone around him said, he trudged through as always with his motto that there is no harm in applying and never to stop chasing his dreams. Inspired by Bruce Lee, he stated, “It doesn’t matter whether you are following the conventional path or not, but make sure to be the best in the one thing you decide to do.”
Fahim says, “Beyond personal opportunity, I hope my achievements inspire and open pathways for future Bangladeshi graduates.” His message to the next generation is to explore everything, but soon after, choose what is important.
