BracU Marks Road Safety Day, Honors Victims
On November 18th, Brac University Leadership Development Forum (BULDF) and BRAC jointly hosted a seminar on road safety awareness to commemorate the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims. Distinguished speakers, including Ilias Kanchan, Founder of Nirapad Sarak Chai, Mohammad Sajedul Karim Chowdhury, Director of Operations at Brac University, and M. Khalid Mahmood, Program Manager of BRAC Road Safety Programme, addressed the audience.
The event started with Sajedul Karim Chowdhury’s opening speech, in which he enlightened the audience about Brac University’s various initiatives to ensure the safety of students in the university area. Mr. Mahmood then presented a presentation highlighting the causes of road accidents and discussing collective action for creating safer roads. The last speaker of the event, Mr. Kanchon, urged the students to take the lead in bringing change in society. He concluded with a request for the audience to become more conscious and self-reflective about road safety issues.
An interactive discussion session also took place, during which the students expressed their concerns to the authority regarding road safety issues around the university’s campus community and location. The event concluded with a strong commitment to promoting road safety, along with a poignant candle-lighting ceremony to remember and honor the precious lives cut due to brutal road traffic incidents.
Regarding the initiative above, Tanvir Ahmed Tamim (Vice President, BULDF) remarked, “BRAC and BULDF have taken this initiative with the vision of raising awareness among people, especially youth because responsible and aware citizens play a pivotal role in bringing the long-awaited positive change in the current scenario of road safety.”
