BracU’s SoL celebrates quarter-final victory in international moot
The Brac University School of Law (SoL) team achieved a remarkable milestone by reaching the quarter-finals of the 2nd Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) Moot Court Competition on International Law and Global Security, held from November 14th to 16th. It was hosted at the RRU Gandhinagar campus in Gujarat, India. The team of three-Tasmia Muhammad Parisha, Mashrura Binte Musa, and Priyangshu Paul Chowdhury (Seniors, SoL) made history as the only international team to qualify for the top 8 positions.
The coach, Md. Mostafa Hosain (Assistant Professor, SoL) guided them as they navigated a tough competition that began with 53 teams. Through a rigorous memorial submission round in October, only 24 teams advanced to the oral rounds, with 8 teams progressing to the quarterfinals.
Reflecting on their success in the preliminary rounds, Parisha said, “Our way of presenting was quite structured and academic; we adhered to the code of the International Court of Justice as closely as possible. Mainly, we stood out with our research.” Mashrura mentioned the challenge of the short preparation time for the memorial, adding that participants must “analyse every line of questioning for the case,” which requires a deep understanding of the laws.

The team credited much of their resilience to their coach. Mashrura remarked, “He was constantly supporting us, giving feedback on our statements, and helping us handle the judges and other teams.”
Offering advice to aspiring mooters, Mashrura suggested to “try and consult as much as possible with seniors and faculties, it helps you identify the flaws, and make changes,” as well as to analyse the case facts repeatedly to view them from all possible angles.
This achievement marks a significant milestone for the School of Law, highlighting the students’ capabilities on a global platform.
