BUAPS takes a photowalk in the wilderness

On August 29th, Brac University Art & Photography Society (BUAPS) organised their Photowalk event at the National Botanical Garden and the adjacent National Zoo, located in Mirpur. These locations offered the members a brief escape from the hustle and bustle of Dhaka city life, allowing them to hone their natural and wildlife photography skills.

It was organised in response to increasing engagement among the members and to facilitate learning from peers and seniors about different photography techniques. In the words of Md Rakib Hossain Ontu (Senior, CSE), “Someone might capture a garden in a way that someone else won’t, or someone can use shutter speed to create some amazing effects in a picture that he or she can share with other members. This builds teamwork, leadership and networking.”

In the Botanical Garden, participants focused on framing within natural elements, gaining practical experience and exploring their devices. “What fascinated me the most was that even when many of us were taking the photo of the same thing, we had our own take on it and each was unique to that particular photographer’s style,” expressed Tasfia Anzum (Junior, MNS).

After a short break, they continued their adventure at the National Zoo. Photographers aimed to capture animals within their enclosures, finding the right angle and lighting to bring their photos to life.

The photowalk was a successful event that inspired members to collaborate and showcase their photography skills. As Nasim Osmani Shourav (Senior, CSE) said, “After all, if one never leaps, how will they ever know what they are capable of? This event helped me discover myself in a deeper, more meaningful way.”
