In memory of Professor Shaheda Rahman
Brac University’s paragon professor from the Architecture department, Shaheda Rahman had departed on the morning of November 14th at 9 am at the age of 71. After being undertaken as a victim of COVID-19 in September, she had suffered the harrowing after-effects till the last of her days.
With an array of exemplary credentials, Professor Shaheda was a role model to all. She had placed 1st Class 1st in B. Arch, BUET, and then completed Masters from Katholiek University of Leuven, Belgium. In 1976, Professor Shaheda had joined the Architecture Department of BUET and after holding numerous positions for a period of 39 years, she completed her tenure in June 2015. Later, she joined BracU as the Chairperson of the Department of Architecture from 2015 to 2016 and continued teaching there till her passing. She had also worked with the Ministry of Health, National Institute of Social Medicine, UNESCO, Institute of Architects, and Aga Khan Trust. Her fields of interest were mainly architectural conservation and hospital planning.
Professor Shaheda Rahman has left a gaping wound in the lives of her innumerable mentees and the architecture community of Bangladesh. One of Bangladesh’s finest gems has been lost.
