Student to Faculty: Dr. Upal Aditya Oikya, PhD

On this episode of Student to Faculty, we have with us Dr. Upal Aditya Oikya (Assistant Professor,
School of Law), who once occupied the same classrooms, he now stands in training a new generation of
future lawyers.

Dr. Upal is a proud alumnus of BRAC University. He completed his LLB from the School of Law. Later
pursued his PhD in International Law at the University of Pecs, under the prestigious Stipendium
Hungaricum scholarship. While sharing his experience from a student to joining academia, he described
this as a full circle moment, from being a student to shaping the voices of others in the field of law.

His academic interests lie in International Humanitarian Law and International Criminal Law. In
discussing his philosophy of teaching, Dr. Upal said, “I try to make the session in that way that people
can think more, analyze more and apply that”. He encourages his students to ask questions, look for

MD. Shahriar Mahbub Joy

Md. Shahriar Mahbub Joy is a writer at BRACU Express. He is a senior majoring in Law (LLB) at BRAC University. Joy is passionate about writing, storytelling and football. If you don't find him in the lab criticising a new act or plot weaving in the cafe, then you'll definitely find him kicking a ball in the field.
