Alvi brings his legal mind to META

B M Mostafa Mahamud Alvi (Alumnus, SoL) is a public and digital policy enthusiast who has achieved a remarkable milestone of joining the global tech giant META. He secured the position of a Market Specialist for Bangladesh in the Global Response Operations Team – Specialized Enforcement Unit (SEO) where he will be expanding his knowledge of safeguarding the digital ecosystem based in Singapore, specialising in Bangladesh’s market. It is an honor to mention that he is one of the very first of BracU’s SoL program to be able to land such a significant position in one of the world’s leading tech companies.

Alvi gathered 4 years of work experience across different NGOs, MNCs and law firms after graduating with an LL.B. in January 2022. With a drive to understand the humane side of law and aligning it with policy management, Alvi’s work at the Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST) and later at Banglalink Digital Communications Limited is a reflection of his expertise in policy advocacy, legal analysis, corporate governance, and stakeholder relations. His participation in the Strategic Assistant Program (SAP) at Banglalink and the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification helped him to engage directly with government and non-government stakeholders as well as learn the rapidly evolving digital regulatory frameworks through first hand mentorships.

Transitioning from legal practice to digital policy came solely from his curiosity and determination. When asked about what encouraged him to take a leap towards META despite being from a non-technological background, Alvi shared, “I have always been deeply inquisitive about how technology is governed. For me, policy should not be enforced for enforcement’s sake but must be able to respond to real-world issues, especially in diverse communities where cultures intersect.”

To the young minds waiting to spread their wings, Alvi’s journey of perseverance highlights how someone can make their place in the big world of technology by also bridging and translating policies into practices.
