Mohaimenul Islam
Mohaimenul Islam, currently a senior lecturer at the Electrical and Electronic Engineering department, is best known for his calm demeanor and ability to camouflage himself as one of the students. With a knack for teaching from a very young age and skills to manage everything organizational, he received the Vice Chancellor’s Gold Medal Award for his outstanding result in his postgraduate program in EEE in Brac University’s 13th Convocation.
“I believe that whatever values I carry or the type of person I am today were shaped by my school and college life, which I spent at Urea Sarkarkhana School and College, Narsingdi. My teachers and the diverse group of people I interacted with taught me things no books or motivational speeches could. It exposed me to various activities and environments, convinced me that Extra Curricular Activities are the soul’s food, and it is essential to balance it alongside studies to keep oneself alive. Those ideologies and experiences helped me when I got admitted to Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) and joined their EEE Society. Within a while I was promoted to be their General Secretary and began a flagship event called IdeaSpark which is continued till now.

“My interest in EEE was from a very young age, watching my father. That led me into it, with my curiosity about machines bringing me to the power sector. After my undergraduate life ended, I was indecisive about what to pursue and tried many things, but nothing seemed to keep me passionate. That is when I enrolled in Brac University for my Master’s, hearing about its impact in research, and I never left. Choosing my field of education, and career was always led with gut feelings. It is never easy to decide for a lifetime, but it will never seem like a chore if you get significant results from your inner calling. Explore various job prospects, read up on multiple streams to find your interests before deciding.
“I believe the most important thing in life is being kind to people. If you show empathy to people, infusing kindness into your actions and tone, you can change anyone’s life. I believe in focusing more on the student’s level of effort as it shows their interest in the particular field. I make sure their hard work never goes in vain. Engineering classes give one the problem-solving fundamentals, and understanding them with clarity gives them the capacity to solve. I am no one to give you advice as I am also learning from the behavior of people around me, adapting the best from the teachers I see, and I suggest you do the same because it’s live interactions that leave the most impact on one’s mind.”
Mohaimenul’s journey was unexpected, but he believes no part of it needs changing, as every experience creates who we are. Life does not always need to be planned, but you should have goals, like his goal to study renewable energy abroad. Apart from that, his only intention is to keep being the exceptional mentor he is, spread kindness, and continue to be the shining paragon of a teacher who can transform the students’ personalities for the better.
