BRAC University Marks Its 16th Convocation with Inspiration and Excellence
BRAC University held its 16th convocation on February 25, 2025, at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center, Purbachal. On this auspicious occasion, 4,829 graduates from 37 programs were celebrated, marking a proud moment for students, their families, and friends.

Professor Wahiduddin Mahmud, The Chief Guest and Honourable Education Advisor, announced the convocation opening. Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy (Convocation Speaker, Academy Award-winning Filmmaker and Journalist) imparted her invaluable life lessons to the graduates: “No matter how intimidating the world looks, the courage to stand up will be always your strongest ally”. For the official awarding of degrees, the host invited deans, heads, chairs, and directors of the respective schools, institutes, departments, and programs to present their students. The Education Advisor made the announcement.

Shihab Muhtasim (Graduate, CSE) and Tahani Tabassum (Post-graduate, Biotechnology) gained the Chancellor’s Gold Medal. Shihab delivered the valedictorian speech, sharing his heartfelt journey at BracU and how it shaped his growth. He said, “To truly succeed in something, you must follow how to enjoy it.”
Tamara Hasan Abed (Chairperson, Board of Trustees), recognized the BracU’s courage and sacrifices during the July Revolution. She commended students for becoming socially conscious leaders, as Sir Fazle Hasan Abed envisioned. She reminds that ethics, courage, and critical thinking are no longer optional. Professor Wahiduddin prioritized their innate talents rather than solely focusing on financial gain. He also shared the significance of taking responsibility and building morality. Syed Ferhat Anwar (Vice-Chancellor), delivered his speech on embracing change and appreciated being part of this transformative, knowledge-driven journey.

Twenty-eight students, equally divided between postgraduate and undergraduate programs, received the Vice-Chancellor’s Medal. Dr. Sadia Hamid Kazi (Chair of Convocation Committee, Chairperson, CSE) praised volunteers, hosts, and staff for their remarkable contributions to the event. The collective effort and shared achievements make this institution vibrant. The session concluded with the scroll distribution. The convocation marked the end of a chapter and the beginning of a future with new opportunities.
