From screening to storytelling: BUFC celebrates Bangladeshi cinema

On April 8th, Brac University Film Club (BUFC) hosted a screening of Taandob, one of the recent blockbusters of Bangladeshi Cinema, featuring Sakib Khan, Jaya Ahsan, and other talented artists of our country. The Brac University Auditorium was filled within moments, reflecting the widespread enthusiasm of the students regarding the movie. Taandob, with its compelling, dramatic narrative and action sequences, presented a thematic message for the entire audience.

Explaining the impact of such events, Dibyojyuti Paul Srijan (Junior, CS) mentioned, “The event was an escape in the midst of our monotonous academic setting.” He also added, “The Bangladesh film industry is on the rise right now, and such widespread appreciation encourages artists to create better content for the audience.”

The audience was on the edge of their seats for the long-awaited segment Kokhopokothon. The ambience was lit up with the trailer and the songs of the movie Pressure Cooker. Eager students filled with anticipation waited to see their favourite cast mates coming from behind the curtains.

Soon enough, the cast of Pressure Cooker, Nazifa Tushi, Mariya Shanto, Rizvi Rizu, and the brilliant director, Raihan Rafi, were in the same room as eager fans. They talked about how this movie brought together four women to make such an impactful, all-women-led movie. The inspiration, challenges, and learning curve this movie brought. They are hoping the people who are going to the theatres with their loved ones and the ones at home watching can resonate with their stories too. 

Nazifa Tushi expressed, “People love going to the movies now, so apart from the traditional stories we see, we need to bring back impactful and fun stories with which the audience can connect.” Lastly, Raihan Rafi stated,

“Bangladesh has many creative minds, but they just need to be consistent and confident in their work. The love for art will always reach people.”
