BracU Students Receive Top Awards: Outshine at DUNMUN 2024

A delegation of 21 students from International Association of Business Communication(IABC) of Brac University, managed by Campus Ambassador Md. Yeafez Ahmed Amio (Fresher, Economics), participated in the prestigious Dhaka University Model United Nations(DUNMUN) 2024. The event titled, “Sustainability Beyond Conflict: Forging Equitable Peace Through Unified Actions,” was held from May 30th to June 2nd at Dhaka University. Featuring 11 committees with distinct agendas and over 500 participants, the conference was inaugurated by Dr. ASM Maksud Kamal. Special guests included Prof. Dr. Md. Delwar Hossain, Registrar of Brac University Dr. David Dowland, and ex-President of Dhaka University Model United Nations Assocation(DUMUNA) MJ Sohel.

The remarkable success of BracU students was evident at the conference. Yusha Aanan Ahasan (Fresher, CSE) won the Best Delegate award, and KM Fahim Ashab (Fresher, CSE) won the Outstanding Delegate award, both representing the USA in their respective committees, United Nations Security Council(UNSC) and United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR). With experience in about 34 conferences and 16 Best Delegate awards including this, Yusha said, “ I have had the privilege of winning UNSC multiple times in the past, and winning this felt like a good ending to DUNMUN 2024.” He credited his mentor, Jidni Mayukh Shachsa, a BracU alumni and the former Secretary General of Brac University Global Model United Nations (BUGMUN) 2020 for his achievements. Regarding his achievement, Fahim added, “ I felt overjoyed beyond belief when I was announced as the Outstanding Delegate. I aimed to lead the committee with insightful speeches and diplomacy.”

Both Co-Directors of the MUN wing of IABC, Miftahul Zannat (Junior, CSE) and Firuz Tahsin Rodshi (Junior, CSE), showcased their extensive MUN experience as they served as executive board members in their respective committees, Group of 77 (G77) and Disarmament and International Security Commitee (DISEC), as rapporteurs. Miftahul remarked, “ We tried to ensure the delegates understood the essence of G77, and I enjoyed challenging them and watching them excel later on.” They both highlighted the significance of MUN in developing life skills, and encouraged fellow BracU students to join IABC as they aspire to send more students to MUN conferences.
