Nurturing collaboration, innovation and opportunities: BSRM School of Engineering started its journey

On April 30th, Brac University and the BSRM Group of companies held the inauguration of BSRM School of Engineering, marking a groundbreaking collaboration between academia and industry. Held at BracU’s auditorium, the event celebrated the shared mission of equipping future engineers with skills in sustainability and inclusivity, under the theme “Shaping Tomorrow: Innovation for Sustainability.”

The ceremony began with the national anthem and recitations from holy scriptures. Moderated by Khairul Basher (Director of Communications, Brac University), the event featured speeches from key leaders who made this partnership possible. Professor Arshad M. Chowdhury (Dean, BSRM School of Engineering) welcomed the guests and shared his unparalleled joy about this collaboration. He remarked the collaboration as a prudent investment in ideas, talent and development. Alihussain Akberali (Chairman, BSRM Group of Companies) shared a little bit about his journey, encouraged the students to stay in Bangladesh, and shared his hopes for this partnership of making engineers who want to serve our nation. Tamara Hasan Abed (Chairperson, BracU Board of Trustees) talked about the beautiful and sustainable architecture of BracU, and cited successful international examples of academia-industry collaboration. Dr. Syed Ferhat Anwar (Vice-Chancellor, Brac University) expressed unwavering hope about this milestone bringing in more opportunities. As the highlight of the entire event, the website and logo of the BSRM School of Engineering were launched. To encourage the innovative minds, stalls were stationed to showcase different projects, research, and facilities under the BSRM School of Engineering.

The event ended with a cultural programme and prize-giving ceremony where the winners of the T-shirt design competition were awarded. The event organizing team member, Sadia Afrin (Senior, EEE) stated, “It marks the beginning of a new era of growth, and opportunity for our engineering community.” While Tajrean Tamas (Senior, EEE) is getting hopeful about availing more opportunities to implement her academic learning in the industry setup. All in all, the event was a great success in celebrating the amazing collaboration between two separate entities remarking a future full of opportunities.
