Bracu Pharmacy Students Shines at Inter-University Poster Presentation

On 21st September, the Public Health and Sciences Club of North South University organised a ‘Vitiligo Awareness’ seminar with Incepta Pharmaceuticals Limited. This event included an Inter-University Poster Presentation Competition, where two teams from Brac University emerged as the first and second runners-up. Dr. Fatema Tuz Zohra, Associate Professor and Dermatologist at Enam Medical College and Hospital was present as the chief guest. Other honourable individuals present included Professor Dr. Deepak Kumar Mitra, Dean of the School of Health and Life Sciences, Dr. S. M. Saidur Rahman Mashreky, Chairman of the Department of Public Health, and Dr. Aziz Bin Sharif, Faculty Advisor of the Public Health and Sciences Club at North South University. The posters titled ‘Shades of Vitiligo: Understanding Depigmenting Disorder’ discussed innovative treatments for vitiligo and its stigma in Bangladesh.

Team Patches led by Md. Iftekhar Al Mahmud (Senior, PHR), with Ammarah Laaika Mohiuddin (Senior, PHR) and Nusrat Jahan Jinia (Senior, PHR), secured the first runner-up position. Team patches mentioned that they wanted to propose a research idea for the treatment of vitiligo patients with evolutionary unification of AI & nanotechnology. Regarding her experience, Ammarah Laaika Mohiuddin said, “For a beginner like me, participating in a poster presentation competition for the first time, this was an effective & diverse learning experience. I am glad that I took this opportunity. Our team getting a prize was indeed a pleasant & unexpected bonus to the experience.”

Team Spots of Hope emerged as the second runner-up, led by Saiful Islam (Senior, PHR), with Sadatul Islam (Senior, PHR), and Ahmed Zarin Raisa (Senior, PHR). “We focused on working on a holistic approach to restoring skin pigmentation while also addressing the emotional and psychological impacts on patients. My team & I are really grateful & inspired to pursue excellence in future projects by this accomplishment”, mentioned Saiful Islam.
