Bhashar Jonaki 2.0: A beam of knowledge for the underprivileged.

On February 21st, one of Brac University’s clubs, Brac University Community Service Club (BUCSC) held a book donation event called Bhashar Jonaki 2.0. Their intention with this event was to promote the habit of reading books among impoverished children who lack the financial capacity to purchase books or do not have adequate access to quality education. They feel that encouraging young children to read books is a vital way to expand their knowledge.

BUCSC collected over two hundred books through this event with donations coming from students as well as faculties. These books were given to the library of the Amader Paathshala School, a devoted institution in Mirpur 12, Dhaka, where students of all grades pay tuition fees starting at fifty taka. The school has been relentlessly working towards its objective of assisting children from impoverished backgrounds in receiving the education that they need so they are able to pursue their aspirations.

The joyful event did not conclude with the donations; the club organised an engaging activity for the young students to take part in as well. These talented students eagerly participated in an art competition that was arranged to showcase their artistic abilities. From among these youthful talents, ten winners were selected, and the club members themselves distributed multiple books as rewards.

The BUCSC members had an enjoyable, interactive, and unforgettable experience with the enthusiastic schoolchildren, and they hope to continue this event once again soon. Mohammad Ali (Junior, CSE) said, “It was such a thrilling and rewarding experience to engage with the kids, their smiles and laughter enriched our hearts and reminded us of the simple joys of life. Glad to be part of sharing happiness.” while Emratuz Jannat Atika (Freshmen, MNS) added, “Bhashar Jonaki 2.0 was a fantastic event that BUCSC planned. I am delighted to be involved in this amazing project. With my other club members, I had a stress-free day filled with joy and the pure grins of the children.” The school’s principal, Tofazzal Hossain, as well as the teachers expressed their gratitude towards the hard-working club.
