BUBef hosts Post-Budget Dialogue: Equity and reform in focus
The Brac University Business and Economics Forum (BUBeF) organized the Post-Budget Dialogue FY 2025–26 on July 15th, featuring key industry and policy experts to evaluate the national budget’s direction and priorities. The panel included Alamgir Hossain (former member, National Board of Revenue), Kazi Halimur Rashid (CFO, Syngenta Bangladesh), Md. Nafeez Al Tarik (Managing Director, Dhaka Bank Securities), and Mostafa Amir Sabbih (Social Protection Specialist, World Bank Bangladesh). The discussion was moderated by Shamim Ehsanul Haque (Assistant Professor, BBS).

Quite a number of students, faculty, and economic enthusiasts turned up for the event, which Alamgir Hossain pointed out, “It’s good to see the number of participants increasing from last year; I always want to hear how the young minds are perceiving the economy.” Further he enlightened the necessity of ensuring progressive tax rate for making the tax system equitable. When asked, Kazi Halimur Rashid focused on the agricultural spending of this year’s budget; he talked about tariffs to reduce duties in cold storage. He also added, “The tax exemptions in the sector can encourage more people to get into agriculture.” Md. Nafeez Al Tarik concurred, offering insights on fiscal measures needed to stabilize the capital market and build investor confidence.

During the open floor session, Alamgir Hossain concluded by advocating the need for a centralised system to escape tax evasion. The dialogue ended on a positive note with enthusiasm and hope from the present audience and guests for a better economy.
