Hoops, nets and breaks: Inside BracU’s game spaces
What if surviving a demanding academic life is not only about studying harder but also knowing exactly where to unwind? Well, lo and behold, BracU offers just the right place for you. Tucked across the 6th floor and MPH, open Saturday through Thursday, 8.00 am to 8.00 pm, the game spaces offer students a space to pause and recharge. A schedule posted during self-registration week outlines slots for volleyball and basketball, while table tennis, carrom, and foosball remain available throughout the day, ensuring every possible form of academic avoidance.
MPH elevates the amenities with volleyball and basketball courts. Drimit Alam Heeya (Junior, SLS) appreciated the arrangements, saying, “The current staff are the most wonderful people, who abide by the rules, maintain order, and handle daily setups and takedown of nets.”
Basketballs are provided, making it easy to jump into solo practice, casual 3v3 games, or even full-court matches. Umar Zawad Naqvi (Junior, CSE) shares, “MPH is my go-to for basketball. It gives me a chance to play the game I love, connect with like-minded people, and stay active in a welcoming space.” Meanwhile, badminton courts fill up in winter, while in summer, some mere spectators enter only for a quick blast of cold air on especially humid days, only for the athletes to demand that the fans be turned off for optimal performance.
These spaces hum with a strong sense of community that draws you in, even if established groups and routines can initially feel a bit intimidating, particularly for freshmen. Whether you’re a casual player or not, there’s something here for everyone. In essence, these amenities are not just recreational; they are a much-needed, beautifully chaotic hideaway where you walk in for an escape and walk out after spending an entire evening ignoring your academic responsibilities.
