IEEE Week: Innovation, exploration and opportunities
April 15th marked the launch of the first event of IEEE week, organised by the IEEE BRACU Student Branch. Drawing attendance from aspiring students, the first day began with a warm reception from Dr. David Dowland (Registrar, BracU) as well as the inaugural launch of their merchandise. With an aim to paint a clear picture about self-betterment, the first event, “Beyond CGPA: Career Growth & Development” provided different dimensional experiences from the two speakers Rashed Mujib Noman and Raihan Ur Rashid. Later on, IEEE Communication Society (ComSoc) BRACU Student Branch organized a seminar, featuring Md. Moin Mostakim (lecturer, CSE), who presented his work on “Mind the Network: How Neurons Connect the World”. It focused on a machine learning model that imitates the human brain and assists in recognising patterns and decision making.

On April 20th the IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Society (AESS) BRACU Student Chapter hosted a webinar featuring Dr. Sheikh Mohammad Mahmudul Islam (Postdoctoral Fellow, Department of Biomedical Engineering, Duke University, North Carolina, USA) about RF Sensing For Healthcare Applications. Dr. Islam practices pioneering research that harmonizes biomedical engineering, radio frequency systems, and space science applications.
On April 21st, IEEE Computer Society (CS) BRACU Student Branch organized an intriguing seminar on Exploring Quantum World, Black Holes and Quantum Information that took place featuring Dr Tibra Ali (Professor and Associate Dean Research, SDS). The engaging discussion delved into the black hole conundrum relating it to thermodynamics and the fundamentals of quantum mechanics.

An insightful seminar on “Careers in Renewable Energy” took place on April 22nd, hosted by IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES) BRACU Student Branch. The seminar featured Engr. Jorifa Khatun (Director, Directorate of IPP CELL Bangladesh Power Development Board) who keenly elaborated on the industry of renewable energy in Bangladesh. Reflecting on the seminar Rayhan Kabir (Senior, EEE) shared his thoughts “I am interested in pursuing an internship in the Solar power plant system and this seminar unleashed several other unexplored career opportunities in front of students like us.”

Finally, the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society (RAS) BRACU Student branch hosted a workshop on Natural Language Processing (NLP) on April 23rd. The session led by BracU faculty members Ariyan Hossain and Niloy Farhan explored various areas and challenges surrounding future innovation in the field, bringing the thrilling week to an end.
