The Connection of AI with Human: Friend or Frenemy
Curiosity, a human trait, has been the source of invention for centuries. While it unleashed some inventions that are termed as “great,” with their own setbacks, and we all may agree one of them is Artificial Intelligence (AI), which was the fruit of another quest driven by curiosity.
The main goal of AI was to see whether technology can replicate human intelligence. Currently, almost everyone has access to AI. People use it daily for their tasks, ranging from personal to professional. Incorporating it in daily life made things more comfortable, like any other modern invention. However, how comfortable is too comfortable?
In this era, a student who is always swarmed with assignments, there’s nothing that they love more than a gadget that can do their work for them. Not just academics, rising internet trends such as “The Ghibli Trend” influence people to do it as a form of entertainment. However, recklessly and often desperately, some willingly give their information, even their own pictures to AI. But what they don’t consider is that this information, such as their personal information, academics, or their pictures, are now available at the AI database for others to see, giving strangers easy access to use them without consent. If some students decide to give their academic materials to AI to make things easier, other students who did their own research get their assignment flagged as AI-generated, because the information now belongs to AI. Additionally, it isn’t guaranteed that nobody will use the personal picture that one decided to upload to participate in a trend. There are chances the picture will be available for everyone to see and potentially use is haunting.
We consume AI to make our lives easier, and AI also consumes our data to learn and train itself or maybe for other purposes. So it’s up to you whether you take it as a friend or a friendly-enemy (frenemy). But it is our responsibility to determine the limit until which AI is our friend and when it turns into a foe, we have to ensure our safety and future.
