Treat Yourself: Dining Your Way Through Campus Blues

On some days, the heart wants more than just a tummy-filling experience. It might be asking for an aesthetic set-up where the staff will call us ‘ma’am’ while taking orders and not ‘mama’. Or maybe all we want is to feel better about the 5/20 on the quiz paper with a meal that costs more than our whole semester grade combined. So, this brings us to places which will make up for the sadness by taking a hit on our wallets but on some days, that is completely worth it. And that brings us to the last food guide on this series.

Beside the front gate of the campus, stands tall the Century Tower housing various restaurants like KFC, Chillox, Digger, Khanas, Griddle and a couple more. While KFC is the comfort place of many, especially on Tuesdays with their bucket offers, it is a perfect place to visit with your friends after a bad exam without taking much hit on your wallet. So is Chillox and Digger where you can stand indecisive on a floor and choose which door to open but they’ll no longer taste like the 80tk burger or the 200tk pizza of Food valley. And then we have Khanas, a complete package with rice-bowls for rice-lovers and burgers/sandwiches for those who need a break from the traditional carbs. But their cold-coffee with the magical sprinkles will never fail to uplift your mood after a tiring day. However if you want something heavy with perfect proportions of everything in an aesthetic wooden bowl, take the elevator to level 5 and enter Griddle. Their 190/= rice bowls may not be a lot in quantity but the taste and look could be satisfying. They have other more expensive rice bowls and pastas, however a disclaimer would be that their beverages always arrive late. A new place opened in the building as well, called  Eatro, so that could be a go as well. The next building houses Kudos which is similar to Khanas, with some extra options in the menu of wraps and sandwiches so if you cannot find space at Khanas, you could walk some extra steps.

If the taste buds demand a sweet treat, you could visit Savoy. With 3 different ranges of ice cream of premium, super premium and elite, where any of them could solve the impending sense of doom of taking the 3 hour bus back home. With a cute interior and a range of flavors, an ice-cream treat to yourself can always turn the curve of the mouth upside down. Brew Buddies on the other hand has a range of hot and cold caffeinated beverages along with a plethora of deserts to lift you up after some failed attempts at making everything right by yourself. You can always try out something out of the ordinary to change a monotonous week to something sweet and special.

If you do not want the pressure of the traditional style restaurants, you can go out the pocket gate for some more options. Mon Cherie is located on the road opposite to where helen aunty sits and although a fairly new place has a lot of options and is a good option to go for a filling lunch, if you are not sensitive to a lot of smoke since their kitchen is way too close for comfort. Their dory fish rice meal is a 8.5/10 while the poutine is a 9/10. Opinion on the restaurant Salt differs from person to person however judging from the number of people regularly found there, it is also a pretty popular lunch spot if you want to indulge yourself in a sit-down meal.
