Team spirit: great on cover page, missing in reality

Group project, the academic equivalent of being forced into an arranged marriage with strangers, ghosts, and that one person who thinks “teamwork” means moral support from a distance. Nothing says “bonding” like being thrown into an academic survival game with people whose work ethic you only discover after the grade depends on them.

Assigning tasks is like drafting players for a team when half the squad doesn’t own shoes. You beg for someone to take the conclusion, they agree… then submit three sentences starting with “In conclusion” and ending with a grammatical crime scene. Procrastination becomes the team’s mascot, somehow the most difficult tasks are tackled only when the clock is seconds away from hitting 11:59 pm.The finished work looks like it sprinted into the submission portal! An attempt to coordinate a meeting gets lost in the sea of “just on the way” or “can’t turn on the camera” while the deadline keeps stalking the serial killer of a horror film. As Tauhid Easfi (Senior, MNS) said, “Despite having weeks to start, we started the project the day my Wi-Fi wasn’t working and the laptop crashed. It was a bonding experience with trauma.”

When the project finally comes together, we experience the satisfaction of clicking “Submit” and swearing to never do group projects again…until next semester. Because not all teamwork makes the dream work, sometimes it’s just a good life lesson.
