A deep dive into industry insights at BUBEF colloquium 

On May 3rd, Brac University Business and Economic Forum (BUBEF) organised an insightful seminar titled “Corporate Curveball” on data analytics and supply chain management. The seminar was attended by the leading industry leaders, including Md Azimuddin Khan, (Director, Robi Axiata PLC) and Khondaker Mostakim Ahmed Fahim, (Chief Supply Chain Officer, AKIJ Resource). The event was graced by prominent figures, including Shamim Ehsanul Haque (Assistant Professor, BBS), as well as other faculty members and students. 

The seminar was opened by Assistant Professor Khan’s remarks. Then, Md Azimuddin, who brings more than 20 years of cross-border analytics experience in the industry, talked about how Robi Axiata PLC has reached an unprecedented level of operational efficiency by leveraging AI and data analytics. He stressed the importance of combining technical skills with storytelling and critical thinking. “Understanding the contemporary analytical tools such as SQL and machine learning is crucial, but combining them with problem-solving skills is what really gives an edge in the industry,” he comments.

Khondaker, a proud Brac University alumnus with 16 years of expertise in procurement transformation, highlighted the vitality of supply chain management, comparing its necessity to water and electricity. He emphasised that data analytics is the foundation for precise demand forecasting and informed decision-making. He encourages students to make use of online resources and networking to build up a valuable portfolio of hard and soft skills: “Look beyond the curriculum and never stop growing.”

A participant, Lamim Morshed (Junior, BBS), said, “Today I learnt that job security is not limited to technical knowledge; it’s ensured through creative problem-solving, personal branding and constant self-improvement.” The discussions in “Corporate Curveball” have transformed an intimidating corporate overview into an achievable destination for the students.
