BUMC honours indigenous heritage through roots & rhythm
On August 30th, BRAC University Multicultural Club (BUMC) held a heartfelt event, “Roots & Rhythms“, aimed at honouring the rich heritage of the indigenous communities within and across the borders. The event was graced with prominent figures such as Dr David Dowland (Registrar, BRACU), Saiduzzaman Shikdar (Head of ISO, BRACU), Fahmida Rahman (Program Director and Senior Lecturer, SoGEd), Md Abu Zafar Tonmoy (Assistant Director, ISO), Ahnaf Ashiqur Rahman (Lecturer, SoGEd), and other esteemed guests.

The essence of “Roots & Rhythm” reflected the idea of sharing and appreciating the diverse cultures and the sense of belonging. The event intended to revive the spirit of togetherness and heritage through joyous representations. Nilormi Sarker (Junior, ESS) says, “The purpose of the event was to learn about the distinct culture, its traditions and identity through vibrant music and dance”. She adds, “The significance of such an initiative is to transform awareness into appreciation and respect for our indigenous heritage”.

Multicultural music, dances and poems were as much about celebration as they were about visibility. The event concluded with a warm feeling of cohesion.
